Most people in rsynthesizers are all about hardware, and I definitely get the appeal, both from the perspective of nostalgia and also that I want knobs feeling (at this point, the question of which sounds better is a complete toss-up). Mmi/Elysium A Generative Midi Sequencer Software Synthesis AndThere is so much creativity and innovation currently at play in the world of software synthesis and information routing, providing options that arent even possible in the physical world, particularly in terms of interfaces. This app, and (unrelatedly) apps like Audulus really demonstrate those points beautifully. Now cue the downvotes:) 9 Share Report Save level 2 Sub Phatty iPad Ableton Original Poster 3 years ago I love rsynthesizers and pretty much feel the same way. For me, I just recently got into making electronic music and I literally had no budget to buy hardware so the iPad was great as it gave me all the tools I needed to make electronic music at a fraction of the cost of hardware, and, in many cases, with more functionality than hardware. Having a good hardware synth with a bunch of knobs and dials with USB midi does make a nice pairing with the iPad. Ive got a sub phatty and I recently realized I can midi map all the knobs and dials to similar points in soft synths in the iPad. I definitely prefer playing hardware keys to soft keys and having the ability to still turn physical knobs is definitely a plus. Theres actually a guy who built a huge custom midi instrument that reflected all the knobs and dials of the model 15 just so he could have something physical to play with it. Im probably still going to pick up the behringer model d and probably a bastl kastle. And I never thought Id be able to afford modular, but here I am with Audulus on the iPad. For 20 I got 100 modules and a community that loves sharing their patches and creations for free. Theres nothing wrong with loving hardware and wanting more innovation in hardware synths (lets face it, the hardware manufacturers could be doing better), but software is where the bleeding edge is these days. Lets make the most of it instead of turning our backs on it. Share Report Save level 1 MicroBrute, MiniNova, Electribe 2, Circuit 3 years ago Oh neat, are these Markov chains 2 Share Report Save level 2 Sub Phatty iPad Ableton Original Poster 3 years ago Kinda, except you cant set the probability. Its random but follows the chain you design so theres some structure to it or repeating patterns that occur. But as a whole, with all the emitters going, its a totally random or generative sequence that never really repeats. One of the problems ive been having composing music on the iPad with sequencers like fugue machine and xynthesizr is repetition. Sequencers just kinda want to repeat and play over and over and its difficult to make changes so its nice to finally have a sequencer that blurs the line between composition, repetition and randomness. In the apps description on the App Store, it says now available for a reduced introduction price until 1129. The current price (for me) is 7.99. Mmi/Elysium A Generative Midi Sequencer Professional IOS AppsAny idea what it will become after 1129 Also, AUv3 Audiobus 3-compatible At this point, those functionalities should be standard in professional iOS apps, but I dont see anything about them on the App Store or on the products website. Share Report Save level 2 Sub Phatty iPad Ableton Original Poster 3 years ago Im not the dev. Just a fan of good sequencers and generative music in general. Dunno about its compatibility.
